FDA Impact Resistant Lenses
When something like this comes along it is easy for us all to put our differences aside and work together. The FDA is in the process of updateing the impact resistance documents, the changes being proposed will effect the samll offices across the country from the Opticians to the OD to the OMD. If you edge in house you will be responsible for testing all your eyewear to make sure it meets the FDA’s impact standard, this can lead to higher costs that will enevitably be passed along to the patients. This will also allow for the labs to eliminate their testing which means ultimately the liability lies with the manufacturer which would be considered you the small office. From now untill January 24th 2008 the FDA will be accepting comments on the document.
